School News and Updates
This week was the first week of the school year and it went great. I walked around to all the classrooms and found students learning and engaged in their education.
  • The new cell phone policy seems to be a success and students are able to more readily focus on their learning. It is important to note that if a student is seen with a cell phone during class time, they will be issued a referral and a consequence.
  • We revamped our Advisory class. It is now called SOAR, and we have a robust curriculum connected with AVID school wide lessons to ensure all our students are being prepared for life after high school.
  • Student schedule changes are complete. Students will not be allowed to make changes to their schedules; however there are certain extenuating circumstances that warrant a change (i.e. the student was placed in Math 1, but they already took and passed Math 1).
  • Student Chromebooks should arrive by the end of next week. Any students who have not yet received their Chromebook should be getting them soon.
  • We are still waiting for a new Assistant Director and hope to have someone hired and able to start by early to mid September. Until then, all matters requiring administration should be addressed to me, Ms. Briggs.
  • We are looking for parent volunteers to help with campus supervision. If you are interested or available, please contact Ms. Mildred Gains at mgains@gtaschools.org.

Upcoming Events
You can view important school-wide events by subscribing to our school Google Calendar.
  • Women's Equality day is August 26. Take this time to reflect on those who have gone before us to afford us the rights we have today.
  • Next week we will begin offering Flex classes. Students will be signed up by their teachers to get academic support, or they will be allowed to sign up for a class of their choice.
  • MIT Money is BACK. Our new and improved MIT money is in, so staff will be receiving their MIT money to distribute to students when they SOAR (safety, ownership, achievement, respect).
  • Monday September 2 is Labor Day Holiday and there will not be school.

Important Reminders
  • Come in Dress Code every day. If you need assistance purchasing clothes, please inform the main office. You can review the dress code here.
  • Be sure to be present and on time to every class every day. Remember, we will be enforcing our attendance policy as outlined in the student handbook.

Extracurricular Engagement
  • The before and after school program is changing. Please complete this form if your child will take advantage of after school program.
  • We encourage students to get involved with clubs, sports, and internship/community service opportunities. More information about those will come out on ParentSquare.
