MIT COUNSELING MISSION

Our mission is to provide a comprehensive counseling program that supports the academic, socio-emotional, and college and career readiness development of MIT students. We will accomplish this through proactive and data driven programming, in collaboration with students, staff, families, and the community. Our goal is to develop confident, self-directed, civic-minded, life-long learners.

WHAT DOES A SCHOOL COUNSELOR DO?

3 counseling domains

Academic

We play a crucial role in helping students succeed academically. We assist with course selection, academic goal-setting, and time management. We also provide support for students struggling with grades, helping them develop strategies to improve performance. Additionally, we work closely with teachers and parents to identify and address any academic challenges students may face.

Socio-emotional

We provide a safe space for students to discuss personal issues and emotions. We offer guidance in managing stress, anxiety, and interpersonal relationships. By helping students build emotional resilience, improve self-esteem, and navigate social challenges, we contribute to students' overall mental well-being and emotional growth.

College and Career Readiness

We help students plan for their future beyond high school by providing resources and guidance related to college admissions, scholarships, and career exploration. We offer support in researching colleges, providing information about standardized tests (like the SAT or ACT), and assisting with career exploration. We also help students identify their strengths, interests, and goals to guide them toward educational and professional paths that align with their aspirations.
