MITA (MS & HS): Thank You to All

Posted Date: 05/10/26 (08:30 PM)

Dear MITA Community,

We would like to express our gratitude to the entire MIT/GTA learning community. We are very lucky to be part of a wonderful community. We achieve excellence by intention and hard work, but if a limo bus shows up to take our 7th-grade students on an outdoor education field trip, then we are getting on the bus!

Parents/Guardians: Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in recognizing the dedication of MITA educators during Teacher Appreciation Week. We appreciate being on your grocery shopping list and the warmth of your kitchen extended to our school.

MITA Scholars: Thank you for showing up to take care of your studies and to build a vibrant MITA community. We would not have the community that we do without the dedication of the following teachers:

  • Ms. Delesa Lara-Castro for supporting our student leaders at MIT HS for spirited Rally Week.

  • Mr. Destin Tunca for supporting our student leaders at MIT MS in always picking up the mic to lead all celebrations, big and small.

It was a week of friendly competition. The Day 1 festive entrance to the field became more spirited as the week progressed.

MIT MS scholars with Perfect Attendance received an MIT “Money Bag” because it pays to show up. The awards were created by staff, and winners were selected by staff. Thank you to our class comedians for a good laugh as we celebrated students for progress report card GPA achievements and strength-based awards to celebrate the indomitable human spirit, such as NWEA Top 3, NWEA Most Growth, Employee of the Year, Chief Technology Officer, Future Historian, Comeback Kid, Band Aid Boss, and more.

MITA Staff: Thank you for choosing to be an educator. Your shoes are hard to fill. So far, there is just one MIT scholar who would consider going into teaching. When asked why not, the response is almost always, “It’s too hard. I can’t deal with the kids.”

MITA Prospective Staff: If anyone is interested in joining the MIT/GTA staff, they may check current openings on Edjoin: https://www.edjoin.org/griffintechnologyacademies?rows=10&page=1&catID=0&districtID=2778. They may also contact Ms. Lisa Dodson, Chief Talent and Operations Officer, at ldodson@gtaschools.org.

Again, thank you for choosing to be on Team MITA!
